Biography:

While growing up in West Virginia, Ruth Koh developed sensitivity to the subtle and bold beauty of nature. Her paintings indulge the viewer’s imagination and celebrate the energy and beauty of Apppalachia.

Appalachian and rural landscapes dominate the body of her work.  Her use of a palette knife lends itself to an emotional, expressive style.  Her painting style has been described as, “Subtle, evocative . . . almost bordering upon the abstract” and “Magical.”  Although she works predominately in oil, she also works in pastels.

Her paintings are in many private collections in Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio, Georgia, and West Virginia.  Her paintings have sold in a variety of regional exhibition venues.

Her most recent shows in 2006 include “Artscalamation!” a benefit by Covenant Health,  “Artscapes Auction” at the Knoxville Museum of Art,  “earthworks:  natural resources redefined”  at the Arts & Culture Alliance, in Knoxville, TN. Her work was exhibited at Three Flights Up Gallery in May, 2006.

Upcoming shows are Three Flights Up Gallery in December, 2006 and The Art of Webbfest at Gettysvue Polo, Golf and Country Club in March, 2007.

Koh’s work can currently be viewed in Dandridge at Shady Grove Gallery; in Knoxville at Art Galleria and SWAT Gallery at the Emporium; and in Morristown at Aesthetic Considerations.
